No need to book  Just turn up and we will always be there to greet you whatever the weather.

Parking  You are advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to the meeting time to allow for parking, putting on boots, etc, bearing in mind that we aim to set off promptly

Friday 2 April                  Dorking                                 8 miles

(Meet 1100 outside Dorking Station, off A24 (large carpark). Rail travellers depart London Victoria 1001, arrive Dorking 1050 or depart London Waterloo 0954, arrive Dorking 1041)  A short tour through historical Dorking then, following in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims to countryside of great scenic contrast; ancient hillside tracks with grand vistas to distant hills and beyond, gentle paths through meadows, woods and charming old hamlets. Lunch at the Wotton Hatch, one of the most popular inns in Surrey.   (Grade B)  (Finish approx. 1630)   


Monday 5 April            Farncombe               6, 7 or 10 miles

(Meet outside Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, adjacent to Millbrook carpark on A28. Rail travellers depart London Victoria 0936, arrive Clapham Junction 0941, depart Clapham Junction 0952, arrive Guildford 1023 or depart London Waterloo 0930, arrive Guildford 1003; meet outside station at 1030 for accompanied walk to meeting point at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre)  A gentle, picturesque route along the River Wey, in the steps of pilgrims to ancient Compton. A scenic stretch of open fields and woodland glades to historic Godalming. Lunch at the excellent Withies Inn, tea at Farncombe Boat House. Train back to Guildford from Godalming (after 6 miles), or train from Farncombe (after tea after 7 miles, or walk an extra 3 miles back along the towpath to Guildford (10 miles). (Grade A or B, depending on mileage selected)  (Finish approx. 1745 if completing 10 miles)


Saturday 24 April           London Parks           4 or 8 miles

(Meet 1030 Victoria rail station ticket office) A circular guided walk through London’s most beautiful parkland: St James’s, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens; many features throughout of outstanding landscape, architectural and historical interest. You can either finish after 4 miles at Kensington Palace or join us at lunchtime at Kensington Palace Orangery for the 4-mile return walk through the parks by a different route or of course you can enjoy all 8 miles. (Lunch approx. 1300-1400 at the splendid Orangery in the grounds of Kensington Palace. To meet at lunchtime at the Orangery, the nearest tube is High Street Kensington, 4 stops on the circle line from Victoria; approx. 15-minute walk).   (Grade A)  (Finish approx. 1630 after 8 miles)


Saturday 29 MayChiddingfold        9 miles

(Meet 1030 Witley rail station, off A283, 3 miles south of A3 at Milford. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; details will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time)  Memorable scenes: tranquil meadows, streams, woodlands, elegant parks and ponds, to Chiddingfold, one of the most picturesque Wealden villages in Surrey; finally a visit to the Lockwood Donkey Sanctuary. Lunch at historic Crown Inn, Chiddingfold.  (Grade B) (Finish approx. 1630)


Monday 31 May          Cookham, Thames Valley            7 miles

(Meet 1100 Cookham rail station. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; details will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time)  A scenic guided walk with many features of interest including fine views from Winter Hill overlooking the winding Thames, Kenneth Grahame’s Wild Wood (inhabited by Badger, Mole, Ratty and Toad), with extracts from Wind in the Willows. Descending to the National Trust’s Cockmarsh, we follow the towpath to historic Cookham, home of Stanley Spencer, visiting his famous art gallery.  Lunch at The Jolly Farmer, Cookham Dene.  (Grade A)  (Finish approx. 1700)



Saturday 26 June   White Down/Logmore Lane     4  or 8 miles


(Meet 1030 for 4-mile White Down walk or 1400 for 4-mile Logmore Lane walk, or combine the two for 8 miles, both meeting at the Wotton Hatch Inn, large carpark on A25 Dorking to Guildford road, approx. 2 miles west of Dorking. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; details will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time. ‘Phone June on 020 7233 6563 for details of shared taxi from Dorking Station; lifts back to station at end of walk)  White Down:  From historic Wotton to the high chalk crest of the North Downs; wonderful vistas to distant hills, and in the valley below one of the loveliest landscapes in Surrey.  (Grade B) Logmore Lane: A walk of scenic delight through woodlands and meadows, beside streams, to a small picturesque hamlet complete with millpond.  Lunch at the popular Wotton Hatch Inn, Wotton.  (Grade B) (Finish approx. 1630)


Sunday 27 JuneHampton Court                     4 or 7 miles

(Meet 1045 Hampton Court rail station, junction of A308 and A309; Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time).  Easy, level walking beside the River Thames to Home Park and Hampton Court’s beautiful gardens, ablaze with the colour of spring flowers. Lunch in the Tiltyard Tearooms or local inn. After lunch, simply return to the station, visit the palace or continue with us for a further 3 miles to Bushy Park and the magnificent Woodland Gardens. (Entrance £8.50 or £7 for 15 or more or £7.00 for gardens only).  (Grade A)  (Finish approx. 1645)



Saturday 17 July        Mickleham/Box Hill           5, 4 or 9 miles

(Meet 1030 for 5-mile Mickleham Down walk or 1415 for 4-mile Box Hill walk, or combine the two for 9 miles, both meeting outside Running Horses, Mickleham Village, off A24, near Dorking. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time)  Mickleham Down: Woodland groves lined with Yew and Beech, unspoilt downland in summer flower, returning via Roman Stane Street to this attractive ‘Domesday’ village. (Grade B)  Box Hill: Incomparable chalk downland carpeted with flowers, magnificent historic woodlands leading to stunning viewpoints.  Lunch at the highly-recommended Running Horses. Sunday 18 July    Sutton Abinger              7 miles          

(Meet 1115 large free rail station carpark at Gomshall, off A25 between Guildford and Dorking. A walk through a landscape of enchantment: woodland glades, timeless hamlets, pastoral tranquillity, panoramic views towards distant western horizons. Pub lunch at The Wotton Hatch. Saturday 21 August        Dunsfold                      9 miles

(Meet 1030 ‘overflow’ carpark, Winkworth Arboretum, 2 miles SE of Godalming on B2130. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time; phone June on 020 7233 6563 for lift from Godalming station).  An outstanding route from the Arboretum to picturesque Dunsfold noted for its beautiful church and holy well, crossing wooded valleys, wildlife habitats and remote heathland. Sunday 22 August    Chartwell, Kent            6 miles

(Meet 1100 Westerham Village Green; park at large carpark off A25 on east (far) side of Westerham - footpath to Village Green. Two hours at Chartwell for lunch or picnic and tour of house and/or grounds before returning by a scenic route to Westerham for tea. Sunday 12 Sep      Friday Street/Crossway           4 or 8 miles(Meet 1045 for Friday Street 4-mile walk or 1415 for 4-mile Crossways walk, or combine the two for 8 miles, both meeting at Abinger Church, Abinger Common, off A25 Dorking to Guildford road. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time; phone June on 0207 233 6563 for lift from Dorking station) Friday Street: A scenic walk amidst some of the finest rural gems in Surrey around Holmbury St Mary and Friday Street. (Grade B).  Crossways: Superb countryside, historic Crossways Farm, Broomy Down and pretty Sutton Abinger; optional visit to St James’s Church to finish.  Lunch at The Abinger Hatch. Saturday 16 October            Horsley                    9 miles

(Meet 0945 Effingham Junction rail station carpark, off B2039 near East Horsley. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time)  A mostly level guided walk with easy paths through woods and meadows, featuring the Lovelace Estate, Sheepleas Nature Reserve, St Mary’s Church with its famous wall painting and closely associated with Sir Walter Raleigh. Lunch at The Barley Mow, a quintessentially English pub dating from the 1500’s.  (Grade A/B) (Finish approx. 1630)



Sunday 17 October       Westhumble & Norbury      4 or 8 miles

(Meet 1030 for 4-mile Westhumble walk or 1400 for 4-mile Norbury walk, or combine the two for 8 miles, both meeting at Box Hill rail station, signed off A24 Dorking to Leatherhead road. Rail travellers: train times unavailable at time of publication; these will be emailed to subscribers nearer the time) Westhumble:  Woodland paths, a fine stretch of the North Downs Way and beautiful timeless rolling downland.  (Grade B)  Norbury:  A beautiful woodland walk featuring mysterious Druid’s Grove, panoramic views and grassy knolls, and the unspoilt beauty of Fetcham Down. Saturday 30 October        Forest Green         10 miles

(Meet 1045 Holmwood rail station, signed Beare Green off A24 Dorking to Horsham road. Train dep. Victoria 0933, arr. Holmwood 1032 or dep. Waterloo 0924, arr. Holmwood 1032, change at Ashtead)  A new route via Leith Hill to the village of Forest Green, crossing the countryside that inspired the music of Vaughan Williams;  featuring tranquil forest glades and meadows and magnificent views.  Lunch at The Parrot.  (Grade B)  (Finish approx. 1700)
