What Nordic Walking will do for you that ordinary walking does not do:
❖ Improve your heart and lung function while engaging in a safe low-impact workout
❖ Improve your posture
❖ Burn up to 400 calories per hour
❖ Strengthen your spinal discs and reduce back pain by gently rotating your spine with every stride,
❖ Maximise your walking potential and improve your all-round fitness
❖ Enable you to walk every day, even if for only 20 minutes, knowing that you are exercising 90% of your body’s skeletal muscles
❖ Free up your joints and reduce the load on your knees, hips and other joints through the use of the poles and upper body
❖ Release muscle tension from your neck and shoulders
❖ Tone up your forearm, shoulder and chest muscles
❖ Strengthen the bones of your lower and upper body, helping to combat osteoporosis
❖ Prevent the swollen fingers you may experience when out walking for the day
❖ Strengthen the muscles of your wrist through the continual squeezing and releasing of the pole grip and stimulate your brain at the same time
What is Nordic Walking? Walking with specially-designed poles to give your whole body, upper as well as lower, a full aerobic workout, achieved with less effort than with other aerobic activities such as working out in a gym or jogging. And it’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels: everyone can do it! (See What the Press Say)
Nordic Poles With Nordic poles your effort is spread across your entire body, making walking easier and less tiring once you’ve acquired the correct technique. Running exercises 35 per cent of your muscles whereas walking with Nordic poles exercises 90 per cent. It’s like gaining another pair of legs and more!
Why are we promoting Nordic Walking? For many years we have promoted country walking for health and happiness. Now we believe we have something even better for everyone. We have personally benefited greatly from Nordic Walking, so much so we want to share the benefits with others. We trained as instructors with the International Nordic Walking Association, UK, so that we can pass on these valuable skills.
Is it a fad? No, it’s here to stay. For many years it has been practised by skiers in Northern Europe to keep themselves fit in summer between skiing seasons. It has now become in itself a sport throughout the world in North America, Europe and now the UK and over 7 million people are practising it. Nordic Walking is the fastest-growing fitness activity in the UK
How do we teach you? In small groups to ensure individual attention is given to your specific needs in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. As experienced qualified teachers of adults as well as qualified Nordic instructors, we fully understand the needs of adult learners and the step-by-step approach necessary for learning a new skill. While it’s quick and easy to learn Nordic Walking, if you are to benefit fully it is essential that you acquire the correct technique from fully qualified instructors. We ensure that only correct techniques are reinforced and we provide plenty of opportunity for consolidating your new skill.
