What to Expect on a Nordic Walking Course:


Training Programme: 



Demonstrations and Continuous Assessment


At the end of Level 1 (on flat asphalt, concrete or grass) you will be able to:


Warm up and mobilise

Adopt correct posture and the heel-toe technique

Coordinate arms and legs in a natural walking rhythm

Swing arms without bending elbows from relaxed shoulders

Handle the poles safely

Strap in and hold the poles correctly

Drag the poles and feel the ‘bite’

Plant the poles at the correct angle

Push down and back to pelvis

Lengthen stride

Cool down and stretch

Enjoy the benefits gained from Nordic Walking

Adopt an appropriate exercise programme to maintain Level 1

  fitness for health


At the end of Level 2 (on any surface) you will be able to:


Employ all the Level 1 techniques with more confidence

Push poles past the pelvis

Apply shoulder and elbow extension

Coordinate simultaneous closing and opening of hands

Push back through the straps

Adopt forward lean, engaging core muscles

Rotate the torso

Enjoy all the benefits gained from Nordic Walking

Adopt appropriate exercise programme to maintain Level 2 fitness


At the end of the 2-day Training Course you will be able to:


Employ all Level 2 techniques with more confidence and power

Increase speed and intensity

Nordic walk up and down hills and try double poling technique

Employ power pushing and pole pumping

Describe the benefits gained from Nordic Walking

Enjoy the full benefits from Nordic Walking

Adopt appropriate exercise programme to maintain fitness

Become a club member

Contact other Nordic Walkers as walking companions

Practice Walks in the
Surrey Countryside

These walks focus on exercise and pleasure and practising your new skill. Although these walks are not teaching sessions, they will be led by a fully qualified instructor who will monitor your technique and advise where necessary. The emphasis will be on fitness, fun and fellowship!

Weekend Breaks

Our popular weekend breaks are open to both Nordic and non-Nordic walkers, representing another opportunity for Nordic Walkers to get together and practise under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
